Introduction to Dynamic Array in JavaScript

Dynamic Array in JavaScript means either increasing or decreasing the size of the array automatically. JavaScript is not typed dependent so there is no static array. JavaScript directly allows array as dynamic only. We can perform adding, removing elements based on index values. We no need to write extra logic to perform these operations. While an element removed from an array then array size must be decreased and if an element added to an array then array size becomes increased. Arrays are used to store homogenous elements means the same type of elements can be stored at a time. Example: We can store integer numbers, float numbers, double numbers, strings, characters, Objects, etc. but at a time any specific type only.

How to Declare Dynamic Array in JavaScript?

In Javascript, Dynamic Array can be declared in 3 ways:

1. By using literal

var array= ["Hi", "Hello", "How"];

2. By using the default constructor

var array= new Array();

3. By using parameterized constructor

var array= new Array("Hi", "Hello", "How");

How JavaScript Array Elements are Iterated?

Array elements are iterated by using:

  • For loop
  • While loop
  • For Each loop

Advantage: Based on user requirement array size can be increased (stretched) or decreased(shrink) in JavaScript array.

Explanation: If in case of Java array values can't be assigned to a variable directly but we have to assign it to an array only ([] array type) whereas in JavaScript we can assign the array to the variable.

Removing the element with splice() function.
